The leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu says that May 27th was originally a day the Consultative Assembly of the Old Eastern region sat, deliberated and gave the late Biafran warlord, General Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu the mandate to declare Biafra, during the 1967 epoch.

He further explained that the Nigerian Government however replaced it with the Children's Day celebration to take away the importance of that very day.

The IPOB leader disclosed this in a radio Biafra broadcast on Friday morning

He said, "Do you know why the put Children's Day on the 27th of May? It was on the 27th of May that the Consultative Assembly of the Old Eastern region sat together in Enugu and gave Ojukwu the mandate to declare Biafra which he (Ojukwu) did on the 30th of May.
