Kanu And Igboho Receive A Strong Message From Adamu Garba

On Saturday, former presidential candidate, Adamu Garba, took to his verified Twitter handle to send a vital message to the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu and the Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

He stressed that they should not make the mistake of thinking that the Northerners are afraid of division - saying that not even one person from the North is afraid of divisions.

He said that what the Northerners are doing is to be reasonable and pragmatic in what can work in Nigeria.

He said that it would not be ideal to start embarking on activities that will be aimed at the breakup of Nigeria.

I think the message of Adamu Garba is clear enough. He is trying to say that the Northerners are not afraid of the break up of Nigeria, but they are only trying to be reasonable and see how Nigeria can still work out as one and united country.

The tensions in Nigeria in the past weeks have been giving many people reasons to be worried. The actions and calls for division have become more intense in the past days.

All of us are already familiar with Nnamdi Kanu's agitation for break up. Even when he was arrest in 2015 because of his call for division, and his release on bail in 2017 amidst the outcry from some members of the public, and his "mysterious" disappearance from the Nigerian soil after his family house was invaded by some officers of the Nigerian Army, he has continued to push for separation from his "hideout" outside Nigeria.

Sunday Igboho, on the other hand, generated a media storm some days ago when he announced that the Yoruba nation is no longer part of Nigeria. He said that enough is enough, and that they will soon open the borders that the Nigerian government had closed down so that goods can start coming into the region.

He also said that they will no longer tolerate the presence of Northerners in Yorubaland, and that they are ready for whatever the Nigerian government wants to do to them.

Adamu Garba said that it will be counterproductive for the Northerners to join in the activities which are aimed at the division of Nigeria. He referred to such activities as futile.

In other words, its unfortunate but a fact that the people and supporters of Kanu and Igboho respectively have developed the mental toughness to fall for a mere message like this.
