According to observations some residents of the South-East region observed the sit-at-home order again on Monday as they shunned businesses and commercial activities, despite the suspension of the directive by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

However, in some areas of the region, people went about their daily business.

IPOB maintained that the Ghost Monday would no longer hold every Monday based on the directive from its leader, Nnamdi Kanu who said it should be observed only on the day he appears in court.

The group said in a statement released by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful on Sunday.

He added that security agencies were plotting to attack civilians and blame it on the operatives of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), IPOB’s militia wing.

However, despite the declaration of the group that the weekly lockdown on Mondays has been suspended, some people in the region have continued to stay indoors on Mondays since the directive was first announced.

Pictures seen revealed that Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, is in total lockdown, as motorcycle spare parts shops were shut. Also, markets and streets at Enugu road, Nsukka in Enugu State were deserted as there were no vehicular movements.

The newspaper also got information that only very few vehicles were on the road in Awka, the Anambra State capital, while public places were abandoned.

Though the market gate of Eke Awka was wide open, only a few persons were seen in the market, while most of the shops remained closed.
