President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, expressed shock at the untimely death of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Ibrahim Attahiru and other military chiefs who died in a plane crash in Kaduna.

The President, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Femi Adesina, described Attahiru and others as “heroes who paid the ultimate price for peace and security in the land.”

JournalReporters on Friday, had reported the death of Attahiru, 54, who was appointed chief of army staff on January 26, who died alongside 10 others in a plane crash in Kaduna.

Attahiru's death however followed his reportedly anti Biafra proclamation, "As long as I am alive, there will be no Oduduwa or Biafra nation".

Nigerian military has recorded two other plane crashes earlier in the year. The penultimate also sequeled the extra judicial killing and air strikes in Orlu that led to the death of many hapless civilians.

On February 21, a Beechcraft KingAir B350i (NAF 201), crashed while returning to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, killing all seven officers on board.

In March also, A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha-jet with two personnel on board disappeared after losing contact with radar in Borno state.
