Mamady said that the economic hardship in the country among other things pushed him and his team to come to the aid of the people of Guinea.
Mamady Doumbouya is a Guinean colonel who was the main actor behind the Guinean coup d'état earlier today. He is member of the Special Forces Group and a former French legionnaire. He further announced the suspension of the constitution and closed Guinea's borders.
On September 5, 2021, he addressed the nation on state TV saying that the military had seized power and that president Alpha Condé had been detained.
He also said that the "Committee of National Rally and Development (CNRD), [was forced] to take its responsibility" after "dire political-situation of our country, the instrumentation of the judiciary, the non-respect of democratic principles, the extreme politicisation of public administration, as well as poverty and corruption."
He was trained by the French military in France and he was called in 2018 by Alpha Condé to head a new unit he created and called them The Special Force to the president.
During the coup, he arrested and detained 83-year-old President Alpha Condé who won a Controversial third-term presidential election in Guinea.
